Washington D.C. - Two Days, Sore Feet, So Much to See

On September 5th I had the pleasure of flying up to Washington DC with my sister Suzanne to have a quick get away and meet with another sister, Janine and her family. I, of course, used the opportunity to take some photographs. Since I allowed my sister Janine's words to fall on deaf ears about the amount of walking we would be doing,  choosing vanity over substance in choice of footwear - I thought that starting with this sculpture from the National Gallery of Art was appropriate. Our Saturday trek throughout the city was great and many, many miles, and although I did pay for my vanity, I had a great time. Yet our first stop in the city, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has a place in my experience of this trip that doesn't fit into the category of a "great" experience. The description would be more profound and moving. I wondered how I could include those photos I took there with the site seeing ones and decided that I would only because it was the start of the trip - but I in no way equate that visit with the rest of the site seeing. If you have not had the opportunity to visit that memorial, do. So here are some of the photographs I took on that two day visit.

After the visit to the Holocaust Memorial - which I suggest you take two hours to tour and be prepared to move through individually, prepared to read quite a bit - we went to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

On Sunday we took a bus ride on a tour bus with an open second story. I appreciated the great view for photographs and tired feet - although the bus driver did not seem too concerned if he knocked our heads off under low clearance bridges!

And last visit Sunday - the National Gallery of Art. I was absolutely floored as to what a large, first class art museum this is. And we only had 1.5 hours. That is the only disappointment of the trip, not having enough time to experience it, or even see a fraction of the exhibits.  I plan to go back and take the day to tour it. What a fabulous place!
