Haiti, the beautiful!

It looks like another trip to Haiti is in the planning. I was looking through photos taken during a trip last year and I thought I'd post them. Also there are two organizations in Haiti that I support and certainly recommend them to anyone who would like to lend a hand in the rebuilding and health of Haiti. One, Love a Child, run by Bobby and Sherry Burnette, has and is doing a tremendous job in Haiti, not only in helping with daily food and health needs, but looking forward to sustainability. The link to their organization is at bottom of post. The second, Haiti for Christ, was introduced to me right after the January 10, 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Joel and Yvonne Trimble have lived and worked in Haiti for over 30 years and they were there when the earthquake hit. Immediately they were right in the middle of coordinating and even supplying relief. I heard about them from CNN reports. They film and produce a very popular television show, La Bonne Nouvelle. It is a wonderful show and shows the beauty, foods and people of Haiti. There is a link to their web site at bottom also.

I hope you enjoy these photos and check out the links too!

Welcome to Haiti!

Books I've read regarding Haiti - check them out if you are interested in Haiti and like to read:
Madison Smartt Bell - (Trilogy on history of Haiti) - All Souls Rising, Master of The Crossroads, and The Stone the Builders Refused. (these are rough so be warned. The cruelty of slavery and the revolution is evident in the words, believe me and there is a lot of integration of the Haitians religion brought over from Africa in the storyline )

Edwidge Danticat (her books are written from the perspective of one of the Haitian diaspora) - The Dew Breaker; Creating Dangerously; Breath, Eyes, Memory; Brother I'm Dying; Krik? Krak!; The Farming of Bones; Claire of the Sea Light - https://www.facebook.com/edwidgedanticat

Jacques Roumain - Masters of the Dew - This is one of the most powerful books I have ever read. I highly recommend it.

Elsie Augustave - The Roving Tree  - http://www.elsieaugustave.com/

Funk Busting

Went for a walk today hoping to see a few interesting sites, get some exercise and get out of a bit of a funk that was threatening to take me over - no way! Here are three photos from what I saw that I hope you enjoy.

The Kitchen Window

Saturday. It's rainy and I have no where I have to be. That is a treat and I've taken the down time to finish up scanning and working on a friend's photos. She wants to make copies of them for her grown children. Very recently the family home burned down - happened suddenly and was a total loss. I'm sure this sad event caused her to start thinking about getting this done with these photos that survived.

Earlier today I was just kind of goofing off taking photos of the fish and turtle in my aquarium - and a reflection of my kitchen window showed up in the glass. I took a shot of it and fooled around with it as I was on computer working photos anyway. After it was done and I looked at it, it made me think about what you might know about an individual from what is on their kitchen window. And then I thought about all the time I have spent at this sink, thinking. I can't seem to stop this brain of mine from being in gear  - I've just accepted that. There have been A LOT of thoughts at this window.

And that's all I have to say on this.

Walking Photos

Another Saturday night and I'm interested in NOT watching TV so I have been going through my photos taken over the past few years on some of my walks. I added a bit with Photoshop here and there but not too much. The photos remind me that if you just look straight ahead going through life (or walking) and not all around, you sure can miss a lot!

Almost Tupelo Honey

Tupelo Honey oozing over me.
Wishing to dance
away
with the melody.
Yet, not yet.
Not quite yet.

The sound of waves crashing
on distant shores;
I can almost smell the sea.
But not yet,
not quite -
just almost of me.

The sound of
your thinking
mixes with the noise
of mine -
together going
clickety clack clack;
almost a song
but
not a finished one -
not ready, not yet.

I have a pen but no shoes.
You have a blank piece of paper.
I wait and tell you,
not quite, not yet but
almost free.

Views of Choice

My first entry of new blog since old blog has me locked out. Oh well, it must have been time for a change but at least I can still access the old one - link to the right at top of Home Page. Tonight I thought I'd just look through my photos and post some here as a way to get started on this new one. Site still under construction but I hope you enjoy them!
